There are other causes too from which an outbreak of pimples can occur. For athletes, the use of anabolic steroids can greatly enhance a zit fest. Certain medications can also help stimulate such as lithium, androgens, and barbiturates. Furthermore, exposure to chlorine can result to a type of acne called chloracne, which could have a long term effect.

Knowing that hormones contribute to triggering pimples, several misguided beliefs can now be explained and disregarded. For example, a person’s diet. It has long been accepted as fact that chocolate and fried foods induced acne. When people notice oily skin, they immediately connect it with
fried foods or a diet consisting of oily products. However, this is not the case. While going on a steady diet of vegetables and fruits can certainly improve acne, there is just no direct correlation between fried foods and pimples.

Bad hygiene has also been held responsible for clog pores and zits. Contrary to that belief, vigorous facial scrubbing can actually worsen the skin. The skin becomes too dry or too damaged for cells to naturally heal itself, leading to more acne.

There are a number of excellent treatments intended for acne. Seeing a dermatologist is always the best choice while many prescription drugs can also be found. These drugs can regulate the production of testosterone, and can assist women during their monthly cycle problems.
