Chin Augmentation (Genioplasty)
Chin augmentation (genioplasty) often produce a dramatic and gratifying result. The objective of the surgical procedure is to balance the facial profile by correcting a diminutive, poorly developed or receding chin and enhance its shape and appearance to blend to an overall facial harmony.

Genioplasty or chin augmentation is accomplished by placing a synthetic implant over the bony jaw line to achieve a balance with the contour of the face. The implant is directly positioned on top of the bone and looks like an extension of the bone itself.

Abnormalities that are corrected in conjunction with chin augmentation

Bite dysfunction
Abnormal molar
Molar size

Correction of these abnormalities is done altogether with the chin augmentation surgery because leaving it out uncorrected may cause a negative effect after the chin augmentation.

Chin Augmentation Procedure
The silicone material is used for chin augmentation as in other cosmetic procedures. Chin augmentation is performed with the following steps:

The operation is done under general anesthesia.
Implant material is individually tailored to conform to the patient's facial profile.
The chin may be approached either outside the mouth usually under the chin or inside the mouth around the gum and lower lip.
This surgical operation takes approximately 1 hour.

Post-Operative Care
Avoid applying force or undue pressure around the chin for about 3-4 weeks after the surgical operation
Take extreme care of the wound inside the mouth and avoid taking in hard food.

A month or two after the operation, the swelling on the chin will diminish and the chin takes on a new shape. The implanted silicone holds on to the chin except when it is struck hard.
