Hoarseness, disappearance of voice, and husky voice are the indications of vocal cord disorders. Vocal cord disorders are usually caused by the infection on the vocal cord or vocal cord paralysis. In some cases, hoarseness may result from misuse and overuse of the voice. Infection on the larynx from sore throat also develops the hoarseness that will occur for a short period and recover after drinking plenty of water and the treatment of those symptoms. However the patient whose hoarseness is persistent for more than 2 weeks has to be examined for diagnosis of vocal cord disorders, especially the patient who has high risk of developing cancer such as drinker and smoker.
Instructions for voice care
Avoid shouting or screaming and do not pronounce the unusual voice or force the voice to speak. Avoid talking in the noisy place. Should speak with the natural tone voice and take an interval to rest the voice. Refrain from smoking and stay away from the bad pollutions.
Correct Hoarseness of voice
• For patient with hoarse voice as a result of muscle's dysfunction on the vocal cord of the dysfunction of the vocal cord itself or a paralyzed nerve.
• The patient will be under the general anesthesia; inserting a laryngoscope through the mouth to access the vocal cord does the procedure.
• The surgery leaves no external scar.
• One night of hospital stay.
