Encephalitis is an acute infection the brain.  The inflammation is a reaction of the body’s immune system to infection or invasion caused by a virus, such as herpes simplex, measles, chickenpox, mumps, rabies, poliomyelitis, etcetera.  In Thailand, there is a so-called virus named Japanese B, normally a parasite from animals, such as pig, horse, goat, rat, bird, etc.  This virus is spread out to potential victims through mosquito bites.

 

The symptoms of encephalitis range from very mild to severe within several days or even several hours, and may include:

  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Lethargy (sleepiness, decreased alertness, and fatigue)
  • Malaise
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Tremor
  • Decrease of consciousness (drowsiness, confusion, and delirium)
  • Stiff neck
  • Seizures
Encephalitis can damage the brain permanently along with some sorts of disabilities. No vaccine is available to prevent from this misery, but to avoid getting the infection by keeping self healthy.
