The risks of colon cancer are equal in men and women. However, the risks of developing colon cancer have to depend on many factors such as
 

•  Personal history of rectal cancer or adenomatous polyps.


•  Family history of at least one family member (father, mother, brother or sister) with rectal cancer or adenomatous polyps.

 

•  Family history of breast, ovarian, uterine cancer and other cancers.

 

•  Personal history of inflammatory bowel disease such as Ulce

 

•  Also severe illness conditions such as severe burns, violent accident and other intensive care patients are the risk factors of developing colon cancer.

 

•  In addition, the infection with the bacteria named Helicobacter pylori has been recently found to be an important factor of colon cancer.

 

Symptoms

Bleeding from the rectum


Blood in the stool (bright red or dark in color)



Change in bowel habits and stool narrower than usual

Abdominal pain in the lower abdomen


Stomach bloating

Unexplained weight loss

Chronic fatigue


Diagnosis
-
Colonoscopy
- X-Ray (Barium enema)

Treatment
Surgery is the best treatment for colon cancer. Treatment depends on the stage of the disease.
