Vertigo or dizziness is a symptom, not a disease.  The term vertigo refers to an uncomfortable sensation of spinning or whirling that occurs as a result of a disturbance in balance or equilibrium.  It may be used to describe feelings of dizziness, lightheadedness, faintness, and unsteadiness.  Moreover, symptoms of vertigo include, besides dizzy spells, nausea, vomiting, double vision, slurred speech, uncoordinated movements, weakness of the arms or legs, headaches, an unusual ringing in the ear, frequent urination, excessive sweating, rapid palpitation of the heart and an unstable eye movements.  The sensation of movement is called subjective vertigo and the perception of movement in surrounding objects is called objective vertigo.

Vertigo is an abnormal symptom that has many causes and often affects patients who are or above fifty years of age. On the other hand, individuals who have had traumatic accident experience of the head and has had the semi-circular canals in the inner ear or the nerve tracts leading from them disturbed or had bacterial virus infections, nerve inflammation, toxic substances, tumors and abnormal pressures, or other causes, usually suffers from vertigo.
