Kidney is an important organ in our body having two sides under the rib around waist and similar to bean. It combines with many blood vessels called nephron that will decrease the amount and be decayed by age without reforming. The obligation of kidney is to remove the wastes coming along with urine and keep the balance of water, mineral, acid and base in the body in addition to produce some hormones such as Erythropoietin that assists the production of red blood cells.

Kidney disease is separated into eight kinds.

	1. Glomerulonephritis causes swelling on the body especially on face and legs, discharge, nebular and less urine, and hypertension.
	2. Interstitial nephritis causes drugs sensitivity and infection. Some patients have weakness and anemia without swelling and could urinate as usual.
	3. Acute renal failure is a state that kidney cannot function occurring rapidly within 2-3 hours or 2-3 days.
	4. Chronic renal failure is a state that damages kidney continuously for a long time.
	5. Urinary infection includes cystitis and pyelonephritis. The patient will have a fever, shivering, urgency, urinary frequency, dysuria and urination with blood.
	6. Electrolyte and acid-base abnormality causes muscle weakness that occurs at the state of low potassium in blood.

Renal failure occurs when the operation of kidney is declined so body cannot remove remain wastes with urine normally. This state does not only harm the operating system of kidney but also every parts of body.

Acute renal failure is the state occurring when the kidney operation is declined acutely. It is found in patient having abnormally kidney operation such as those who suffer shock from any causes, or taking some toxics chemicals that harm kidney. If the cause is found and treated accurately, the kidney operation will recover within 1-4 weeks.

Chronic renal failure is the state occurring when the kidney operation is declined or damaged permanently and cannot work as usual anymore. The wastes in body will increase gradually at all times. If the patient is not treated accurately in time, the symptom will be more severe and harm life. The causes of chronic renal failure are mostly from the chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

The observed symptom is swelling and reducing around shin, arthritis and hair fall. It does not only have the symptom caused by kidney disease but nausea, vomit, weakness, anoxia nerversa, dysuria with blood, etc also. If it is not treated accurately, the patient will drowse, faint, jerk and die in finally.

The treatment of chronic renal failure

The medical treatment
At present there is no any medicine that can cure the declination of kidney or decrease the wastes in body completely. So in the case of chronic renal failure, although the patient is treated continuously, the symptom will still increase so much so that it has to be treated with the other ways such as dialysis, etc.

Dialysis

Permanent abdominal dialysis is a surgery inserting a tube inner abdomen of patient in order to flow the solution to wash away the wastes from body. After this procedure, the patient can go back home and do it again by themselves. But the procedure should be controlled accurately by assistant in addition to especially care about sag change and how to keep clean in order to prevent abdominal infection.

Hemodialysis with kidney machine is to wash away the wastes from blood in body. The procedure takes about 3-5 hours and has to do 2-3 times a week that depends on each patient.

Renal transplantation

Renal transplantation is the best way to cure chronic renal failure. Undergoing this procedure, the patient must have a suitable condition in order to be ready for donated kidney transfusion. This donated kidney must appropriate for each patient that seldom finds at present.

What is hemodialysis?

Hemodialysis is the process flowing blood out from the body of chronic renal failure patient and pass hemolysis machine and blood filter in order to eradicate wastes, keep level of mineral in blood and the balance of water. After that the blood will be brought back into patient's body again.

The major principle is to change wastes and mineral in blood with hemodialysis solution by passing blood to a small tube of filter that is similar with capillary around blood vessel wall in addition to flowing hemodialysis solution outside the tube. The high wastes in blood will pass filter wall to be in hemodialysis solution that makes the level of wastes decreases. Moreover water and mineral will pass filter making the level of mineral and water is in normal balance.
