Will I be asleep during surgery?
Local anesthesia with sedation will eliminate pain and reduce anxiety, but you need not be asleep unless there is a special indication for it.
How long will I be in the hospital?
The surgery takes about an hour to do. You may go home after the surgery but will be asked to return for follow up within a week.
Will I be in pain?
There will be mild to moderate pain after surgery. Your doctor will give you a pain-reliever to keep you more comfortable.
What is the recovery time?
Pain and swelling will gradually diminish over 1-2 weeks. You need to wear bandages and maybe a nasal splint for a few days.
What could go wrong?
Some risks of surgery include bleeding, adverse response to anesthesia, infection, delayed healing, asymmetry, nerve injury, tear duct injury, and need for revision surgery. Over time, skin thinning could develop over the implant, or trauma to the nose could lead to implant displacement. Without these complications, the silicone implant can stay in place for your lifetime.
How do I prepare for surgery?
To avoid complications and reduce risk factors, you must be free from upper respiratory problems. Two weeks before your schedule, you need to stop smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, taking hormonal pills, herbal supplements, and medicines other than those that your doctor allows you to continue.
