What chin advancement does
Chin advancement, known medically as genioplasty, adjusts the underlying structure of the lower face to bring the chin into balance with the rest of the features. Yanhee offers two routes. The first is a chin implant: a medical-grade silicone implant, shaped to suit your face, is secured on top of the chin bone, usually under local anaesthesia, in about an hour. The second uses your own bone: the surgeon horizontally cuts the bottom of the chin bone, slides it forward and fixes it in the new position with medical-grade screws, under general anaesthesia, with around two days of monitoring before discharge and a follow-up at about day 7.
The procedure
Your anaesthesia depends on the technique and the surgeon's recommendation: local anaesthesia with sedation for most implants, general anaesthesia for bone advancement. The surgeon makes the incision inside the mouth or under the chin, then either inserts and secures the silicone implant, or reshapes and advances the chin bone and fixes it with screws or wires. The incision is closed with sutures or surgical tape. An implant procedure takes about an hour; bone advancement is longer and needs the inpatient monitoring above.
Before surgery
At consultation the surgeon reviews your goals and medical history and carries out a pre-operative assessment, sometimes with imaging, to choose the best approach. Medical clearance from your primary doctor may be needed depending on your history. To lower the risk of complications, stop smoking and alcohol, and stop hormonal pills, herbal supplements and any medication that increases bleeding at least two weeks before surgery. Arrange for someone to take you home and help during the first days of recovery.

Prices cover the surgeon, the anaesthesia and any stated stay; flights and accommodation are not included. Chin work is often planned with mandibular angle reduction or cheekbone reduction to balance the whole face, and a weak chin is commonly addressed alongside nose reshaping since the two together set the profile; combined plans are quoted at consultation. Recovery and aftercare
You are monitored in recovery before discharge — the same day for an implant, after about two nights for bone advancement. Expect swelling, bruising and some discomfort, managed with prescribed pain medication; discomfort tends to be more pronounced and longer-lasting with chin advancement than with an implant. Mouth and lip movement is temporarily limited, so keep to a soft diet and your surgeon's dietary restrictions until the incisions heal. Avoid pressure on the chin, keep the area clean, and avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks. Pain and swelling settle over 1 to 2 weeks for an implant and up to 3 weeks for advancement, with the final result showing as tissues settle over the following weeks to months.
Risks to understand
As with any surgery, the recognised risks include bleeding, an adverse reaction to anaesthesia, infection, delayed healing, asymmetry, nerve injury, and the possible need for revision surgery. When an implant is used, the skin over it can thin over time, and trauma to the chin can displace the implant. Without these complications, the silicone implant can stay in place for life.
