Hair Removal

Hair removal also known as epilation or depilation is the cautious removal of unwanted body hair. Our comprehensive guide will walk you through everything you need to know about the procedure, from initial consultation to post-operative care.

What is Hair Removal?

Hair removal in cosmetic surgery refers to the process of eliminating unwanted hair from the body or face for aesthetic purposes. This can involve various techniques, such as laser hair removal, electrolysis, waxing, sugaring, shaving, or the use of depilatory creams. These methods target hair follicles to either temporarily or permanently remove hair, depending on the technique used. Hair removal in cosmetic surgery is often sought to achieve smoother skin, improve the appearance of specific areas, or prepare the skin for other cosmetic procedures.

Electrolysis or laser can permanently eliminate unwanted body hair. In electrolysis, a tiny probe delivers electric current to the base of each hair, dissolving the follicle and preventing re-growth.  Treatment time ranges 15 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the area size and amount of hair. Since hairs in specific areas are in varying stages of growth, and different areas have varying hair densities, the procedure must be repeated up to 7 times at 4-12 week intervals in order to achieve best results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the hair removal procedure hurt?

Topical anesthesia is applied to the skin and allowed to take effect for about an hour before starting hair removal. Definitely, this effectively keeps you from feeling pain.

What do I need to do after treatment?

Apply cold compress during the first 24 hours. Avoid sun exposure. Do not use deodorant, or medicinal creams or anything except water to clean the area for two days. Finally, gently pat dry after washing and avoid rubbing the area for a week.

How long will it take me to recover?

You may have redness and some swelling after the procedure but this is expected to subside in a few days. In addition, the laser can lead to burns on the skin and darkening of skin color. This could take weeks or months to heal. Rarely, injury to melanocytes could lead to permanent skin lightening.

How do I care for myself after the operation?

Importantly, have your skin evaluated by our experts and get advice on the method most appropriate for you.
