“SCULPTRA” is an injectable collagen-stimulating substance containing PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) particles. How SCULPTRA Works
SCULPTRA is a collagen-stimulating treatment designed to restore skin strength and volume from within. Before injection, SCULPTRA is mixed with sterile water and carefully injected into the subcutaneous layer of the skin, commonly in areas such as the temples, cheeks, and beneath the cheekbones, where volume loss and aging are most noticeable.
Once injected, the solution spreads evenly through the skin. Its active ingredient, Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), stimulates fibroblast cells—the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. These essential proteins help support the dermis, the skin’s middle layer, improving firmness, elasticity, and overall skin structure over time.
As PLLA is gradually broken down by the body, it converts into lactic acid, a compound related to AHA. This process supports gentle skin renewal while activating macrophages, a type of white blood cell that helps trigger collagen synthesis. Although the PLLA itself slowly dissolves, the newly formed collagen remains, continuing to strengthen the skin.
